Giving Your Child the Cleanest, Safest, Purest Start with Organic Skincare and Organic Bath Products for Babies

One touch of a baby’s exquisitely soft, delicate skin is all it takes to realize that the purest, most gentle skincare and bath products are called for. But harsh and harmful ingredients are often hidden in baby care products, masked with fresh, powdery scents. By mindfully choosing organic skincare and organic bath products for babies, parents can be sure to protect their little ones from the harmful, toxic, synthetic ingredients found in non-organic care products.
Commonly Used Ingredients to Avoid When Choosing Body Care Products for Your Baby
Many of the ingredients in non-organic baby products can have both immediate and long-term harmful effects. Take particular care to avoid these:
• Surfactants are commonly used to make shampoos more “foamy.” However, surfactants (such as sodium lauryl sulfate) are extremely toxic: Skin irritation, respiratory concerns, severe eye damage, and cancer are just a few of the dangers associated with surfactants.
• Parabens, which are used to extend the shelf life of skincare and body care products, not only cause allergic reactions and skin rashes, but can also affect both female and male reproductive organs. Avoid parabens to protect your child’s long-term health and well-being, too – parabens prematurely age skin, and pockets of parabens have been found in breast cancer tissue.
• Petroleum by-products (such as mineral oil and petroleum jelly) interfere with skin’s ability to breathe and naturally self-moisturize, causing it to become extremely dry, chapped, and irritated. On a more serious note, petroleum by-products are also carcinogenic.
• Synthetic fragrances (often just called “Fragrance” on the label) not only encourage irritating skin rashes, but can lead to headaches, violent coughing, dizziness, and even vomiting.
Keep Your Baby Safe from Harmful Effects and Long-term Health Concerns with Organic Skincare Products
As a brand-new grandparent, I’m becoming even more vigilant in reading product labels, particularly when choosing bath products, food, and other gear for my wee grandson. When you’re choosing bottom balm, shampoo, lotion, baby wash, and other things for Baby’s skin care and bath times, check that the product itself (and not just a very few token ingredients) is certified organic. Be committed to reading ingredients lists, and always look for pure, fresh, safe materials, such as essential oils, herbs, and herb oils. Remember, what you put on your baby’s skin or in his bath will be absorbed into his little body, so choose his care products as carefully as you would his food.
From the first moment you discover you are expecting, you begin making choices about your child’s environment and future. Choosing earth-friendly skincare products for your baby’s skin and bath times is one more important step that you can take towards keeping her healthy and protected, helping Mother Earth, and creating the safest, most wholesome home in your little corner of the world.
