Why use an organic mattress? Organic mattresses are more comfortable than traditional mattresses, hypoallergenic, much more durable and chemical-free. You sleep rested and re-assured that you are not inhaling toxins all night long.

What are Traditional Mattresses Made Of?

A traditional mattress is generally made of polyester fiberfill, springs and a shell of cotton or cotton blend. Polyester fiberfill is a petroleum-based product that is highly flammable and can gas off potentially harmful chemicals. Traditionally-grown cotton has more chemicals applied to it than nearly every other crop and has at least three times the amount of chemical residue as organically-grown cotton. Additionally, these all must be treated with a chemical fire retardant that is known to be harmful with prolonged exposure. On the comfort side, springs give way or break easily and are notorious for becoming uncomfortable within only a year or two of purchasing a new mattress.

The Organic Mattress Difference

Unlike conventional mattresses, organic mattresses are crafted from a natural rubber or latex core, organic cotton fill and an organic wool shell. Organic wool is softer than cotton, naturally regulates temperature and draws moisture away from the body for a more comfortable night's sleep, as well as naturally resists flame so no synthetic, potentially harmful chemicals, normally referred to as ‘fire retardants’, are needed. Wool also repels common allergens such as mold, mildew and dust mites. The natural core is much more comfortable than traditional springs, having very little transference of motion from one side of the bed to the other and providing smooth and even support for an excellent night's sleep and rest. In contrast to a spring mattress's comfortable or useful life span of only a couple of years, an organic mattress will continue to support and provide effective rest for far longer – possibly staying as comfortable as the day you got it for about 25 years.

What Does an Organic Mattress Mean for You?

Not only do organic mattresses mean a significantly more comfortable sleep for you and your family, they can also greatly reduce the risk of common ailments such as asthma by eliminating the source of the most acute exposure to harmful chemicals in the average household. These chemicals have been shown to cause adverse health effects such as disruption of the endocrine system and even liver disease. What is more, an organic crib mattress could even be removing a cause or potential contributing factor in SIDS - especially so when combined with natural, toxin-free crib bedding.

Overall, an organic mattress will provide the means for a sounder, more restful sleep where you can awake refreshed and free of aches and pains from uneven support of a traditional mattress. Furthermore you have the reassurance that your health will not suffer from sleeping on top of, and so breathing in harmful chemicals throughout the night.
