Creating a Green Nursery with Contemporary Baby Crib & Furniture will Save Money and Give Your Baby’s Room a Creative Boost

Create a Contemporary Nursery that Can Grow Up with Your Child
Baby stores are rife with the old coohie-coo traditional baby décor. This doesn’t mean that your nursery needs to be babyish. Children grow up far too quickly and will soon outgrow a bedroom full of baby furniture. Why not consider making some non-traditional green choices that will furnish your nursery with long-term style?
Give Old Furniture New Life
There is no rule saying that your nursery must have a traditional baby dresser, changing table and rocking chair. Although these items are all necessities, you don't need to buy them from a baby store. Many different types of furniture can be re-purposed for a role in the nursery, and reusing furniture is about as green as it gets. Why not give that beautiful antique armoire a new life and use it as a combo closet / dresser / storage unit? A retro buffet can easily be converted to a changing table with lots of storage for all those baby bottom cleaning and diapering supplies. And when you select a rocker, choose one that can have a life beyond your baby’s infancy, a stylish, comfortable piece that you will later be able to use in another area of your home.
A Crib Your Child Won’t Outgrow
The choice of a crib is very important. Your baby will spend much of his or her time sleeping in this little nest during the first few years. Then, one day, your toddler will climb out; a clear signal that the crib has outlived its purpose. Why not get a crib that converts into a twin or full bed (also known as a crib-for-life)? Although this type of bed is normally more expensive up front, it may be the one and only bed that you ever need to buy your child. We purchased one for our son, who is now 3 and has recently graduated to the big boy form of the bed. We got his crib-for-life on sale, and it’s a bed that he will someday be able to take with him when he’s all grown up and living in his own place. Sigh.
